Medical peel formulated For brightening & rejuvenating

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels are classified according to strength, with Level 1 Peels being the mildest form, and Level 4 (TCA Peels) the strongest.  The most common peeling agents in a Level 2 Peel are Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid, and more gentle ones are based with simple fruit enzymes.

Chemical Peels are tailored per patient. Superficial Peels are customized to address minor skin irregularities like discoloration, acne, surface scarring, fine lines, and sun spots. Superficial Peels are also used to prepare the skin for deeper peels or to enhance the efficacy of other more invasive procedures that treat severe conditions like cystic acne, melasma, photodamage, dyschromias, and actinic keratoses

A Medium-depth Level 3 or 4 (TCA) Peel, involves the application of a chemical exfoliant that causes controlled damage of the epidermis and part or all of the papillary dermis (top layer), which ignites regenerative changes and restores the skin’s tone and texture in just a single setting. The most common combination of agents in a Medium-depth Chemical Peels is trichloroacetic acid (TCA), for which it is named, plus Jessner’s solution (Dr. Max Jessner’s mix of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and rescorcinol), and glycolic acid.

Because the strength of a peel determines the level of penetration, the nature of destruction, and the inflammatory response, a Medium-depth Chemical Peel causes moderate destruction and offers intermediate results when compared to a Superficial Peel.  Medium-depth Chemical Peels can be applied to the face, neck, and body and are highly effective in smoothing texture, improving superficial discolouration and mild photo-aging, eliminating fine wrinkles, and enhancing vitality of skin. Level 3 Peels can be administered monthly whereas Level 4 (TCA) can only be administered up to a maximum of 4 times per year.

Who are they for?

Superficial Level 1 Peels are safe and effective on all skin types and can be applied to the face, neck, and body.

Medium-depth Level 2 & 3 Chemical Peels are ideal for those who want more dramatic results than a Superficial Peel can offer but wish to avoid the risk and recovery time associated with deeper peels.

Level 4 (TCA) Peels, administered by a Doctor are ideal for those with severe skin concerns/irregularities. Recovery time is moderate (Up to 2 weeks).

What does the treatment feel like?

During treatment the skin is cleansed and then a solution is evenly applied with gauze, small brush, or cotton-tipped applicator.  The solution stays on the skin for a length of time according to the specifics of your peel, usually no more than 15 minutes, and is then neutralized by water or alcohol and removed with gauze or cotton.

While the solution is active, the sensation will vary according to the strength of the peel, but a Level 1, 2 & 3 Peel's typically do not require anesthesia or pain medication. During the treatment, most people will experience a temporary burning sensation followed by some mild numbing or stinging that is easily managed with a handheld air cooling device.

How long does it take?

A Superficial Peel takes 10 to 15 minutes for the face; larger body parts will require more time.

Are there any immediate side effects?

After a Chemical Peel treatment, you can expect mild swelling, redness, crusting/scabbing, cracking, flaking, and peeling. Often skin may also turn a darker shade and become stiff before it begins the peeling process. The downtime before your skin is restored can be anywhere from 2 to 7 days depending on how quickly your skin heals.

You will physically be able to return to normal activities immediately following treatment; however, your appearance may dissuade you from wanting to be seen in public. You should be able to comfortably return to the public eye within 2/3 days. You will maintain a flushed appearance that will fade slowly over the course of several days post treatment.

Taking caution to properly moisturize skin before and after treatment will dramatically lessen the effects.  Your doctor can recommend the appropriate timeframe for makeup application, but usually it can be applied 24 hours after treatment.

What are the anticipated results?

It takes the skin approximately 5 days to heal itself after a Superficial Peel, at which point you will start to see first signs of results that will maximize after a week post treatment.

Results include minimized pores, fine lines, sun damage, and acne, and moderate improvements in tone, texture, and coloration. Skin will appear tighter, smoother, more even, and radiant.

Results from a Medium-depth Chemical Peels include improvements in texture and skin tone, reduction in fine wrinkles, age spots, pore size, and dark under-eye circles, and clearer, brighter skin over all.

These effects will last for six months to a year, and improvements may persist if you adhere to usual skincare maintenance regiment with treatments like microdermabrasion or superficial chemical peels.

Reccomended course for optimal results?

Results are typically realized after the first Peel treatment; optimal results will accumulate after 5 to 6 treatments spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart for Level 1 & 2 Peels. Level 3 Peels will need to be spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

How much does it cost?

Level 1 Peel - £90
Level 2 Peel - £120
Level 3 Peel - £150
Level 4* (TCA) Peel - £200
